Smile Makeovers

The first thing you should understand about your smile makeover is that there are very few shortcuts. A beautiful smile makeover is the result of art and precision, combined in a package of good communication between patient, surgery and laboratory.

At Simply Crown and Bridge, we believe in the patient’s right to be involved in the decisions made for their future appearance. Every effort is made to maximise your input into the finished design. We have the ability and experience to turn your vision for your smile into reality.
When you read the guide below you will note that we like to see patients at our laboratory. This is always ideal. However if that is not possible, we can communicate through a variety of media: email, skype, telephone and photographs. All help us to achieve the same outstanding results.

At the dentist: consultation and impression taking

Your smile makeover journey starts with your dentist who will carry out a full dental examination. If your teeth and gums are healthy enough for a makeover, they will take any impressions or scans to provide us with accurate measurements of your mouth. We are sent all impressions and scans.

Laboratory visit 1. To view the Diagnostic Wax Up

You can make an appointment at our lab four days after you’ve had your impressions taken. At this appointment, we will take preliminary photographs, which are printed immediately and used to help you discuss your requirements.

You can view your new smile design wax-up side-by-side with your current teeth and then for direct comparison, show the proposed new smile design in the form of waxed teeth on a new model.

You will also be able to view and discuss our many successful cases. These often help when trying to make decisions regarding your final smile design. Generally, after this process, we often find some alteration to the wax-up is required. Changes to the wax-up are made with you present and considered completed only when both you and we are satisfied.

Surgery Visit 2. Case acceptance:

By this stage, you will know that you are in professional hands. Having viewed your new smile and chatted to us, you will have a good idea of whether the proposed treatment is right for you or not. At this appointment, the dentist will need a firm commitment from you if you wish to proceed. As professionals, dentists will not wish to go ahead unless you are completely happy.

You will have seen that the surgery and laboratory work as a team, with a clear plan to produce the smile you have always wanted. You will have seen the proposed smile design, many photographs of our previous work and had plenty of opportunity to make clear your individual requirements. We hope that this process will make your final decision an easy one. Once accepted, an appointment will be made for surgery visit 3. Any bleaching to be done will need to be started now. Good bleaching before impressions can help the base colour of your teeth and therefore the final colour of the restoration, particularly when thin veneers are involved.

Surgery Visit 3. Preparation, impressions and temporaries

We will have provided a guide for your dentist that advises them how much tooth, if any, needs to be removed to achieve the final result. Most smile designs will require the removal of some tooth material. ‘Ultrathin e.max veneers’ less than 0.3 mm thick, ensure that only minimal tooth material is removed. However, if your teeth are heavily discoloured, or very misaligned, more tooth must be removed to mask these defects. Sometimes when a patient’s teeth are very small and recessed no tooth reduction is required.

Your dentist will now construct your temporary veneers. These are made very accurately from the wax up model that you have already viewed. You will now have a very good idea of how the final veneers will look, and should visit the lab to have them assessed.

Laboratory Visit 2: Assessing the temporaries and colour matching:

At this appointment, it is important for us to view the temporaries ‘in situ’ Do you like the new look? If it still does not look perfect, we will adjust the design and apply these changes before making the final veneers.

At this stage, any bleaching should be finished and we can select the final colour of the veneers. We have an extensive range of tooth colours to choose from, both natural and bleached. We also have a lot of experience with colour selection to help you make the right choice.
